Proof God Has a Sense of Humor: How He Met Me in My Mom Life

How God Changed My Life: My Story of Grace and New Life

If you had met me as a young mom, you’d never have guessed I’d one day write about God changing my life story. You would’ve just seen a woman held together by caffeine, dry shampoo, and pure stubbornness.

I was loud enough to look confident, funny enough to hide what was really going on, and busy enough to avoid thinking too hard about it.
But under all that noise, I was a mess — anxious, exhausted, and trying to hold my life together with a planner and a prayer (okay, mostly just the planner).

I tried to fill that emptiness with “good mom” behavior — volunteering for everything, cooking from scratch, making chore charts that lasted a solid… day and a half.
But none of it stuck. I didn’t know it then, but the Holy Spirit was already whispering, even in the chaos of snack time and laundry mountains.

The First Time I Felt the Holy Spirit

One night, a friend invited me to her small group Bible study. She promised there would be childcare and snacks.
And listen — if you’ve ever been a mom of toddlers, you know “childcare” is basically a love language. God knew exactly how to get me there.

I don’t remember what the leader taught that night (sorry, Susan), but I remember what I felt.
It wasn’t guilt or pressure — it was peace. For the first time in forever, my heart felt quiet.

Then someone read John 10:10:

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

I just sat there thinking, “Abundant life? I’m over here trying to have abundant patience!”

But something in me cracked wide open. I realized I’d been surviving, not living.
That night, when the house was finally quiet and everyone was asleep, I stood in my kitchen (next to a pile of dishes, obviously) and said out loud,

“Okay God… if You’re real, I want to know You.”

And that — right there between the dishwasher and the cereal boxes — was the moment everything started to change.

A New Life in Christ Jesus

It wasn’t some big dramatic movie scene. I didn’t start glowing or float three inches off the ground. But slowly — grace by grace — God began to rewire my heart.

I started wanting to read God’s Word — not because I “should,” but because it finally made sense. I prayed more, though sometimes my prayers sounded like, “Lord, if You can multiply loaves and fishes, You can multiply my energy.”

I found a new church with delightfully imperfect people — some had tattoos, some had toddlers, and all had coffee. I finally realized God wasn’t looking for perfect behavior; He wanted my heart.

The Lord Jesus met me right where I was — tired, insecure, and running on fumes — and filled me with unconditional love.
I didn’t become perfect. (Ask my kids.) But I did become new.

And that’s what the good news of the Gospel really is — not that we earn it, but that He gives it.

✝️ Faith & Inspiration Must-Haves

💛 1. Faith Journals & Devotionals

Here are a few things that helped me grow when I finally stopped trying to hold it all together:

Walking Out God’s Love in Everyday Life

Faith didn’t make my life easier, but it made it anchored. When storms came — heartbreak, loss, fear — I had a foundation that didn’t shake.

And here’s the funny thing: the girl who once hid behind humor and chaos ended up leading a small group of her own. (Full circle, right?)
God’s love does that — it turns worriers into worshippers, and women barely hanging on into women walking in peace.

Even now, I look back on that season of early motherhood — the sleepless nights, the endless dishes, the mountains of Cheerios — and smile because that’s where God met me. Right there, in the middle of my mess.

Saying “yes” to Jesus was the best decision I ever made. Every good thing since then has flowed from that one, surrendered, yes.

The Next Step

If you’re reading this and feel stuck, lonely, or like you’re just going through the motions — you’re not too far gone.
God’s grace is bigger than your past, your burnout, and your pile of unfolded laundry.

Take your next step. Join a Bible study (bonus points if there’s childcare). Pray an honest prayer — even if it’s just, “Lord, help.”
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you His love in a way that feels real.

The same God who met me in my overwhelmed mom life will meet you too — because His love hasn’t changed.

And one day, you’ll look back and say,

“That was the day my new life began.”
