Appropriate Attire to Wear to a Celebration of Life

Celebrations of life don’t often have specific dress codes; guidelines are often provided on the invitation to the event. I am attending one next month, and the attendees were requested to wear sports apparel representing their loved one’s favorite team. A celebration of life service is just that: it is celebrating the life of a loved one who is no longer with us. Sometimes, it is at a funeral home, but many times, it can be at a location that means something to that individual. So the location should be taken into account too as the weather can play a part in what you decide to wear. Formal clothing is the standard dress code for a traditional funeral service, but this ceremony often takes part in a more casual environment. ย So, let’s take a look at what some appropriate options might be.

As you can see, the right outfit doesn’t have to include the color black during this difficult time. Muted colors are a perfectly acceptable choice. A memorial event is really about celebrating the deceased life. So, your outfit choices should be respectful. A good rule of thumb is to avoid bright, bold colors, graphic t-shirts (unless otherwise requested by the family), low-cut shirts, ย tank tops, loud prints, and athleisure wear. While these are upbeat events compared to a typical funeral home memorial service, finding the appropriate outfit is still necessary. A respectful choice is always the most important thing.

This post has been about helping you make the right choice of attire for a celebration of life.
