The Ultimate Road Trip Between Houston and Florida

I am a roadie who finds herself traveling on road trips between Houston to Florida more than average so I looked for perfect places that are interesting, fun stops for families and individuals alike to make the travel time pass quickly.

So join me as we travel to the best places between Arlington Texas where we experience Six Flags over Texas we make the drive to our final destination in Orlando Florida where we find ourselves at Magic Kingdom. Join me for nineteen insanely fun and interesting spots in between that you have probably never stopped at before as we road trip between Houston to Florida. So if you are ready for a Florida road trip, let’s go I found us the best route!

 

Texas

Six Flags Over Texas Arlington, Texas

Six Flags has amazing amusement parks that are fun for all ages. This park is not just for summertime it is a must-see for your road trip between Houston to Florida. If you are traveling in the fall they celebrate Fright Fest and Oktoberfest, Boo Fest, then Holiday in the Park. Don’t miss the fun your family can experience between the rollercoasters, the entertainment, and the food. It is a fun day for all. There is another location in San Antonio if you miss it in Arlington. ย 

2.ย Legoland Dallas, Fort Worth, Texas

But if you are not looking to make a day of it then Legoland might be the perfect quick stop for those who are just looking to burn a little energy before hitting the road again. In Legoland, you can meet characters and experience the ride-and-play area. Little ones are inspired to build on their imaginations. Don’t forget to hit the coffee shop on the way out for some coffee.ย 

Arkansas

3. Holiday Springs Water Park Texarkana, ARย 

Who doesn’t love water parks? This is a small water park but it is a great stop for younger children to burn some energy and to enjoy running around for a bit. It can get pretty hot in the South and this is a great place to refresh yourself.

(BONUS)ย Hot Springs National Parkย ย Hot Springs, Arkansas

Ancient Hot Springs welcomes you to this National Park. ย This is a bit out of the way but worth the drive. It has incredible mountain views, a beautiful nature trail, ย and abundant creeks. This natural oasis is waiting for travelers to pass through and enjoy the natural springs that flow through. ย There is plenty to explore if you are up for the adventure.ย 

Louisiana

4ย Barksdale Global Power Museum Shreveport, LAย 

Let’s get back on track for Florida’s beautiful white sandy beaches. On the way through let’s stop to see the military museum on base, you must apply two weeks before to see the museum. US citizens who do not already have base access will need to complete aย Visitor Request Formย to obtain a Barksdale AFB Museum Pass. Come out and see vintage aircraft like the venerable B-17 and B-24 bombers of World War II; along with their best โ€œLittle Friendโ€, the P-51 Mustang. You can also see Cold War heroes such as the B-52D and B-52G Stratofortress. You will see the highest and fastest flying jet aircraft ever โ€“ the MACH 3+ SR-71 Blackbird.ย 

5.ย Coushatta Casino and Resort

This Casino and Resort is a great place to stop for the night if you want a place to rest and spend a day recouping, You can gamble, and play golf, and they offer entertainment and lots of dining options, not to mention the large lazy river that you can enjoy with a swim-up bar.ย 

6ย Alexandria Zoo in Alexandria, Texas

Before we leave Louisana let’s stop at the zoo. Alexandria Zoo offers many events year around including Zoo Boo, Holiday Light Safari, and Mardi Gras Party! Open daily you can see lions, tigers, and bears but do not miss the gift shop on the way out and take home a souvenir that helps support the zoo.ย

Mississippi

7ย Historic Natchez Full-Day Private Tourย Natchez, MS

A family-friendly urban axe-throwing experience, with a heaping side of Southern charm. The ax-perts will teach you how to hurl a hatchet and sharpen your skills in our fun and safe environment. When you are ready, challenge your friends to a throwdown! If you have little ones under 13 there is a special area designed with them in mind with velcro and magnetic axe throwing games.ย 

9ย Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museumย Meridian, MS

The best time to visit this museum is the first Friday-Saturday of November when the Steam Engines are operational. It is an experience you do not want to miss! The Soulรฉ company appears trapped in time โ€“ 1920 to 1945. The belt-driven machine shop has the longest operating line drive shaft (106โ€™) in the United States. An antique three-phase electric motor turns this shaft and powers belt-driven machines that date back to the early 1900s. It is amazing to experience the history of this museum, which is focused on steam engines. Soulรฉ Steam Feed Works is the last remaining steam engine factory in the United States and offers a glimpse at how hard people worked. Visit the 1907 belt-driven machine shop that looks much as it did before World War II.ย

Alabama

10ย Tuscaloosa Riverwalkย Tuscaloosa, Al

Welcome to Alabama! In Alabama, some of my favorite spots near the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk are theย Farmers Marketย andย Capitol Park.ย At the Farmer’s Market, you can pick up a cup of coffee and browse local artists. They also have fresh goods so pick up a few things for the road trip. ย At Capitol Park are ruins from the historic State Capital of Alabama building which burned in the early 1900s. There is plenty of room for the kids to run and play.ย 

11ย The Birmingham Ghost Walk – Hotels Churches and Riots Tourย  Birmingham, AL

If you are someone that enjoys the dark side of history then don’t miss this walking tour. ย Whether you believe in ghosts or are just interested in learning about a different side of the city, this could be fun for you. ย Plus, traveling with a guide enables you to visit sites most people wouldnโ€™t feel comfortable visiting on their own.ย 

12ย Dexter Parsonage Museumย Montgomery, AL

The next stop is the former church home of Dr. Martin Luther King. Today, thousands of national and international tourists annually visit the Church to be inspired by and educated on the history of the Church and Dr. Kingโ€™s role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Georgia

13ย National Infantry Museum and Soldier Centerย Columbus, ย Georgia

This Military Museum is an experience that takes you into a virtual reality center where you can experience a VR Skydive, a Non-Combative Evacuation Mission, a Humvee, or a Black Hawk Helicopter. This is quite the experience for adults and younger people. There is a Giant Screen Theater where you can watch IMAX-quality movies. If you have time don’t miss this experience.ย 

14.ย Flint RiverQuariumย Albany, GA

Next stop is an Aquarium. Flint RiverQuarium has 160 different species of animals, they even have an albino alligator at this site. Big Al, our oldest resident snapping turtle, recently weighed in at 126 pounds.ย 

15.ย Pebble Hill Plantationย Thomasville, GA

A serene, quiet plantation sits in Thomasville Georgia. You can visit the Main House, with its extensive collections and wonderful antiques. The home is filled with mementos of the Hanna family from the furnishings to the portraits and photographs throughout the home. One can view vintage carriages and meet the Pebble Hill horses. There is a small pond on the property where you can picnic if you like.ย 

Florida

16. Cummer Museum of Art and Gardensย Jacksonville, Florida

The Cummer Museum was established in 1958 when Ninah Cummer, an avid art collector, garden enthusiast, and civic leader, bequeathed her beloved art collection and riverfront home to create a museum. Today, the core collection of 60 pieces from Mrs. Cummerโ€™s estate has grown to include more than 5,000 works of art. The historic gardens, set against the backdrop of the St. Johns River, serve as a centerpiece of serenity for all to enjoy.

17. ย St. Johns Town Centerย Jacksonville, Florida

Jacksonville’s premiere shopping destination with over 175 stores. ย There are many luxury stores at this outdoor mall. If you make this stop do not miss the popular restaurant at Restoration Hardware, RH Rooftop Restaurant,ย they have a hidden rooftop restaurant. The truffle fries and a glass of wine are to die for. I can’t believe our road trip between Houston to Florida is almost over.ย 

18.ย Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universalย Orlando, Florida

Travel to the village of Hogsmeade and into Hogwarts Castle for a spellbinding journey through the skies. Experience the wizarding world like never beforeโ€“joining Hagrid to fly far beyond the grounds of Hogwarts castle, deep into the wild of the Forbidden Forest, to discover rare magical creatures on an all-new thrilling roller coaster adventure.ย 

19ย The Magic Kingdomย Orlando Florida

The Happiest Place on Earth is a huge draw to Orlando (aka the theme park capital of the world) is the perfect place to end this adventure. Orlando is one of the largest cities in Florida and is home to Disney! Disney has 4 theme parks in Orlando and all of them have their own personality.

  3. Disneyโ€™s Hollywood Studios
  4. Disneyโ€™s Animal Kingdom

If you have time you can get a hopper pass and spend a few days hopping between the parks. It is truly a memorable experience for the young and old alike. Don’t forget to check out the Walt Disney World resort. There is another location in Los Angeles but it is nothing like the Florida option which has separate parks and requires an overnight stay to get the full experience. Disney is home to some of the best hotels in Orlando, Disney has many tourist attractions, so be prepared for crowds.ย
